Piercing is an extremely popular form of body adornment these days.  Piercings can range from small and elegant* (such as the tiny diamond in the nose) to the extreme surface to surface piercings such as on the neck or hand.  Whatever piercing you decide to get...PLEASE make sure that you go to a professional piercer.  Not only are we trained in safety and health, we are knowledgable in the metals, styles, and sizes deemed approriate for your new piercing.

Body Art~

Some of the most ornate, bizarre and diverse body art was found among the complex world of the Maya.  For the Maya, body modifications were done for spiritual as well as beautification reasons.  Scarification was practiced by both sexes.  Ears, nose, navel, lips, and genitals were pierced and often stretched bigger over time.

The Maya's extreme modifications started at birth.  Balls were hung between children's eyes to make them "cross eyed."  Babies were also fitted with wooden molds upon their foreheads.  The purpose was to reshape their heads into a continuous slope that started at the bridge of their noses and angled back to the top of their foreheads.  Crossed eyes and sloping foreheads were considered beautiful to the Maya people, and most strived to attain these features.
